Threshing Day Website

People searching for a Threshing Day website want one of three different things: the book, the official dragon experience, or a Threshing they can play. The chooser below sorts that out, and the rest of the page is the guide all three have in common.

What Threshing Day is

Threshing Day is a companion anthology by Rebecca Yarros, published by Red Tower Books on 29 September 2026 and catalogued as The Empyrean #3.5. It contains thirteen short stories, one for each of thirteen characters, and each story covers that character's own Threshing. The collection is arranged by year and framed as testimony gathered later by two Basgiath dragonkind professors and transcribed from Navarrian.

The official site describes it as a companion collection rather than the continuation of the story after Onyx Storm. Yarros said the same thing more bluntly when it was announced: this is not book four.

Only one story title is public. The opening framing chapter is called Trial by Fire and is credited to Professors Valin Kaori and Ellery Mynna. The other twelve titles are not yet established.

The day the title refers to

In the books, Threshing is the selection that ends a cadet's first year in the Riders Quadrant. On 1 October, whatever day of the week that is, the first-years walk into a bowl-shaped forested valley southwest of the citadel, and the dragons already living there decide. A dragon will bond with a cadet, ignore one, or kill one.

The cadet has no vote. What each dragon values is subjective, which is why no reliable tactic for the valley exists and why the quadrant trains cadets to survive the day rather than to pass it.

The stories in the collection all return to that same day from different years and different heads. The title is not a metaphor for something else.

The thirteen

The thirteen points of view are Xaden Riorson, Brennan Sorrengail, Dain Aetos, Sawyer Henrick, Sloane Mairi, Imogen Cardulo, Ridoc Gamlyn, Aaric Graycastle, Mira Sorrengail, Liam Mairi, Bodhi Durran, Rhiannon Matthias and Garrick Tavis.

Violet Sorrengail is deliberately not one of them. Her Threshing is already told in Fourth Wing, and the collection does not repeat it. That is the shape of the book: thirteen riders who are not the protagonist, each getting the day that set their own course.

Story-level detail is a separate matter. Pages on this site that go further gate it, and the reading order below is worth taking seriously before you follow them.

What this site is, and what it is not

This site is not the official Threshing Day site and not the official dragon experience. It is an independent fan project: an unofficial game about the rite, plus reference pages about the dragons, the college and the books. It is not affiliated with Rebecca Yarros, Red Tower Books, Entangled Publishing or Yarros Ink, Inc.

If you came for the author, that is rebeccayarros.com. If you came for the book, that is threshingday.com. If you came for the official interactive experience, that is dragonkind.com; the verifiable record of it is kept on this site. If you came for a Threshing you can run this minute, the game is on this page.

Questions people actually ask

Threshing Day is a 13-story companion collection in the Empyrean series, published on September 29, 2026. Each story follows one character through their own Threshing, and the stories are arranged by year.

No. Threshing Day is not Book 4 and Rebecca Yarros has said so directly. It is a companion collection, catalogued as The Empyrean #3.5, and it does not continue Violet and Xaden's story after Onyx Storm.

No, and the distinction matters. It is a collection of thirteen separate short stories rather than one short novel, and the publisher sells it as a companion collection.

September 29, 2026 in the United States, from Red Tower Books. International release dates vary by market, and the UK and Commonwealth edition comes from Piatkus.

Thirteen riders: Xaden Riorson, Brennan Sorrengail, Dain Aetos, Sawyer Henrick, Sloane Mairi, Imogen Cardulo, Ridoc Gamlyn, Aaric Graycastle, Mira Sorrengail, Liam Mairi, Bodhi Durran, Rhiannon Matthias and Garrick Tavis.

No. All thirteen stories are rider points of view. Rebecca Yarros has said the dragons know too much to narrate, and the collection is framed as testimony gathered later by two Basgiath dragonkind professors.

The publisher recommends it. The stated reading order is Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, Onyx Storm, then Threshing Day, because the collection contains spoilers for the novels even though it can be read as an introduction.
