Basgiath War College · Riders Quadrant

Andarna

Andarna is the most spoiler-sensitive record in this archive. Her colour, her tail, her rider and her outcome are all turns in the plot, and the last of them is reframed twice after the first book. This page therefore opens in three stages rather than one.

Registry

The registry module. Her record is held at its own spoiler level, so it opens only when your setting allows it.

How this dossier is built

Andarna appears in three forms across the series, and each one changes what the previous pages meant. The archive therefore records her in three stages: what she is in Fourth Wing, what she becomes in Iron Flame, and what she turns out to be in Onyx Storm.

That structure is not decoration. A reader who has finished the first book should be able to read the first stage without losing the second, and a reader who has finished the second should be able to read both without losing the third.

Everything below the gates comes from the published books and official material. The one field that remains genuinely contested, her final category, is chipped as unconfirmed rather than stated flatly.

Spoilers: Fourth Wing

This section contains material from later in the series.

First stage: Fourth Wing

A golden hatchling

Andarna is described as gold, which the series later establishes as the colour of every dragon at hatching rather than a colour category of its own.

A feathertail

Her tail is the juvenile tail type: feathers instead of a weapon, no claws, no fire, and no ability to carry a rider or form a traditional signet bond.

The gift

What a feathertail can do instead is hand its full power directly to a human. The transfer is unpredictable and can burn the dragon out, and the first book is careful to show the cost.

The bond

She bonds Violet Sorrengail, making Violet the first rider in the quadrant record to bond two dragons. Andarna is one of the youngest dragons ever to bond, and her parents died before she hatched.

Spoilers: Iron Flame

This section contains material from later in the series.

Second stage: Iron Flame

Maturation begins

Andarna starts to mature, and the feathertail form is left behind. Maturation means a weapon tail and the abilities that come with it.

A scorpiontail

She grows into a scorpiontail, tipped with venomous barbs that deliver a lethal sting.

Solas

She kills Solas, the one-eyed orange daggertail ridden by Major Varrish, with a poisoned barb. It is the moment the series stops treating her as the small one.

The second signet

Violet's second signet is seeded in this book rather than handed over, and Andarna is part of how it arrives.

Third stage: Onyx Storm

Spoilers: Onyx Storm

This section contains material from later in the series.

Andarna is described as iridescent, a category separate from the six-colour frame a first-year is taught at Basgiath. The irids reframe what the earlier books say about the Vale, about hatching, and about what a dragon like her actually is.

She also leaves. Andarna's departure closes a thread the first book opened with a golden hatchling in a valley, and it changes what the word bond means for the rider she left behind.

The exact in-text term for her category is contested between sources, and one fan wiki contradicts itself between its infobox and its own body text. The registry chips the field as unconfirmed and holds it there rather than picking a side.

Questions people actually ask

Because every field that matters is a reveal. Her colour, her tail and her rider all land as plot turns, and the archive will not put a plot turn in a sidebar.

Andarnaurram. Dragons reveal their full name only to their own rider, so inside the story it is not common knowledge.

Yes. Fourth Wing is her first appearance, and the first of the three gates on this page opens at that book.

The metadata table and the explanation of why the page is gated. Everything else opens in three stages, at Fourth Wing, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm.

No. All thirteen narrators in the collection are riders. Whether she appears inside another rider account is not established.

One field rests on sources that disagree with each other, including a fan wiki that contradicts itself between its infobox and its own body text. The archive chips that field as unconfirmed.
